Casting Industry Awards Dinner 2024
The MAT team recently attended the prestigious UK Cast Metals Industry Awards, held at the Drayton Manor Resort in Tamworth. The event brought together 180 industry professionals to celebrate the exceptional castings produced by UK foundries and their remarkable achievements in innovation, growth, and performance.
Co-presented by Dr. Pam Murrell FICME, Chief Executive of the Cast Metals Federation, and comedian Ian Stone, the evening highlighted the sector’s successes, its contributions to sustainable manufacturing, and its increasingly global impact.
Dr. Murrell commented:
“The UK cast metals sector continues to push boundaries, innovate, and embrace transformative technologies like 3D printing, simulation, and digital twins. This was evident in the quality of the 20 finalists and the outstanding achievements of the four winners. We can be proud of our work, largely using recycled metal, and confident that our industry is vital to the Government’s Industrial Strategy, supporting UK manufacturing, supply chains, and the broader economy.”
A key focus of the evening was the presentation of the Best of British Casting Awards for Innovation, Company Achievement, and Component of the Year.
Although MAT's UK-based foundry, Eurac Poole, narrowly missed out on the Innovation Award, it was honored with the Highly Commended Certificate for Innovation for its groundbreaking greensand reclamation project. This initiative, developed in collaboration with Omega Sinto Foundry Machinery, underscores MAT's commitment to sustainability.
Eurac Poole successfully installed and commissioned Omega Sinto’s patented USR greensand back-to-core shop reclamation system. This system allows Eurac Poole to reclaim waste greensand by removing residual clay and volatiles, conditioning the sand for reuse in the core shop. The process has enabled Eurac to replace up to 70% of the sand used in its cores, reducing the need for new sand by approximately 1,000 tons per year. This achievement not only lowers landfill disposal and CO2 emissions but also delivers cost savings, operational efficiencies, and improved global competitiveness.
The certificate was collected by MAT's Global Commercial Director, Shaun Lindfield, alongside Omega Sinto’s Sales Manager, Sam Garner. Shaun commented:
“We are delighted to be recognized with the Best of British Casting Highly Commended Certificate for Innovation for our collaborative project with Omega Sinto on greensand reclamation. This achievement reflects our ambitious commitment to placing sustainability at the heart of our casting business, ensuring we provide high-quality, competitively priced castings while reducing our environmental footprint.
Our partnership with Omega Sinto has been instrumental in implementing innovative solutions that meet both environmental and industry needs, demonstrating the strength of collaboration in driving meaningful change. As proud members of the Cast Metals Federation, we are committed to championing the UK casting industry, ensuring it continues to innovate, adapt, and thrive in a competitive global market.”
