Bridging Skills Gaps: Investing in Mexico's Engineering Future Through Our Graduate Program
Building Tomorrow's Talent Pipeline
In 2024, Mincer HD launched an innovative Graduate Program designed to attract fresh talent to our cast iron and ductile iron manufacturing facilities near Mexico City. After identifying critical skill gaps in processes, quality, product engineering, maintenance, and production roles, we took a bold step beyond traditional recruitment methods.
When local recruitment campaigns couldn't deliver the specialised candidates we needed, we partnered with the prestigious UNAM (National Autonomous University of Mexico), known for its exceptional Metallurgical Engineering program. Working closely with university career advisors, we invited top-performing students to apply to our carefully designed development program.
A Commitment to Professional Growth
The Graduate Program provides intensive training for 6-12 months across essential manufacturing areas. Participants receive personalised support and guidance while applying their academic knowledge in real-world manufacturing environments. This hands-on approach gives graduates invaluable practical experience while allowing us to identify and retain the most promising talent.
Our selection criteria focuses on finding well-rounded candidates:
Recent graduates with degrees in Metallurgical Engineering, Metallurgical Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related fields
- Academic performance above 8.5 GPA
- Intermediate to advanced English proficiency
- Valid visa/passport
- IQ of 105 or higher (population average is 95-100)
- Strong communication skills, relationship-building abilities, drive, and learning aptitude
Exceptional First-Year Results
The program's inaugural year exceeded our expectations. Of the 19 initial participants, 12 earned full-time positions at Mincer HD. These new team members have demonstrated remarkable attitude, commitment, and enthusiasm for continuous learning in their chosen fields.
Most importantly, we successfully filled critical positions across multiple departments, including Quality, Finance, Engineering, Maintenance, Processes, and Sales—strengthening our operational capabilities and bringing fresh perspectives to our teams.
Building on Success
Given the program's tremendous impact on both our company and the graduates' careers, we're proud to continue this initiative in 2025. Currently, we have 11 graduates based at Mincer HD and 3 supporting the development of our new site in Pachuca, Hidalgo.
As we've identified additional areas needing skilled graduates, the program has expanded to include positions in Quality, Finance, Engineering, Production, Machining, Maintenance, Human Resources, Purchasing, Foreign Trade, and Project Management.
Creating a Legacy of Excellence
The success of this program stems from the dedication of the graduates themselves and the commitment of our experienced team members who mentor, teach, and develop these promising young professionals. By providing meaningful opportunities and helping shape the next generation of talent in Mexico, we're building a vibrant culture and world-class workforce throughout our Mexican facilities.
