Tumblast Shot Blaster Machine - Eurac Poole
MAT Foundry Group are proud to announce that Eurac Poole will be receiving a new Shot Blaster. The new shot blaster is the TUMBLAST MACHINE with steel track belt TYPE MB 900S-16.4-2/30, manufactured and installed by Wheelbrator, a Norican Technology.
This is the second Shot Blaster MFG has recently purchased for our Eurac Poole site, continuing our commitment to constantly develop and improve our facilities. Installed during the Christmas period last year, we expect our production performance to further improve with the addition of the new Tumblast.
Process
Shot blasting is a method used to clean, strengthen or polish metal; at Eurac Poole, shot blasters are used to remove abrasions and impurities on newly casted brake discs, prior to the fettling process.
The Tumblast Shot Blaster machine is especially designed for the use of round ferritic abrasive discs and utilises the wheel blasting method. The process begins when the discs enter the loading skip of the blast machine, which transports them into the tumble blast machine and returns to its initial starting position after.
Once inside the tumble blast machine, the doors automatically close and the blasting process starts after the turbines have reached their nominal rotation speed. The forward motion of the steel track belt ensures that the discs are constantly turned under the blast stream of the turbines and all sides are evenly blasted.
Once the blast time has been terminated and the turbines have come to a stop, the hydraulic doors open automatically, and the discs are transported via the return movement of a tracker belt into the bins.

Features
The Tumblast Machine has a drum width of approximately 1600mm and a maximum charge volume of 2,500kg, with a single piece max weight of 150kg. The Tumblast Machine is designed specifically to minimise the height from which the discs are dropped at loading and unloading, in order to reduce damage to any sensitive or weaker areas.
Designed specifically for batch operations, the Tumble Machine provides an evenly and continuous tumble, ensuring regardless of size and shape all areas of the discs receive a uniform treatment. During the tumbling the brake discs will continually undergo shot removal, making sure that any cavities or crevices are perfectly cleaned.
This machine is fitted with TITAN shot blast wheels as standard. The TITAN wheel offers excellent blasting performance and unbeatable service life for the main blast components, which are made from hardened tool steel.
GIFA 2019
Wheelbrator will attend this year’s GIFA 2019 event and will be showcasing their new shot blast technology and solutions, including; a new heavy-duty Universal blast wheel, a deep dive into the very latest blast simulation technology and numerous machine innovations.
Visitors to the Norican stand will also be able to learn about the latest digital developments, for Wheelabrator equipment and beyond, with experts from Norican Digital on hand to share the latest thinking.
In fact, Eurac have been collaborating with Norican on their new Monitizer. The Monitizer delivers a complete real-time and historic view of foundry data; coupled with the Industry 4.0, IIoT-based Monitizer, foundries can collect, monitor, and analyse foundry data from one or multiple global sites to boost productivity.
